What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files containing small amounts of information that are downloaded to your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to the website from which they originated on each future visit, or to another website that recognizes the cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow web pages to recognize individual users' devices (such as passwords, language selection, font size, other display settings). Cookies thus allow a website to be adapted to your interests so that you do not have to re-enter them each time you visit. Cookies are therefore used to perform computer authentication, monitor visits and track user behavior on a Web site. They may also contain a unique identification code that tracks user navigation within the site for statistical or advertising purposes. While navigating the Web Site, you may also receive cookies from other Web sites or Web servers on your computer or mobile device (see "Third-Party Cookies"). Some functionalities may not work or may not work properly without cookies, so in certain cases they are technically necessary for the proper functioning of the Website.

There are different types of cookies. Depending on their characteristics and functions, they may remain stored on your computer or mobile device for different lengths of time: session cookies, which are automatically deleted when the browser is closed; so-called persistent cookies, which remain on the user's device until a predetermined time.

Under current legislation, explicit consent is not always required for the use of cookies. In particular, the so-called "technical" cookies do not require it, for example to transmit a message via an electronic communication network, or to provide a service explicitly requested by the user. In other words, they are essential cookies for the proper functioning of the site or for activities requested by the user.

Among the technical cookies that do not require explicit consent for their use, the Authority for the Protection of Personal Data includes the following cookies:

  • "Analytics cookies", directly used by the site operator to collect information on the number and behaviour of users of this website

  • Cookies for navigation or visits (for authentication, to make a purchase, etc.)

  • Functional cookies: These cookies allow users to navigate through the site based on a number of selected functions (such as language settings, the goods selected for purchase) with the purpose of improving the comfort and performance of the site.

  • What types of cookies do we use?

In particular, uses this website:

  • Technical cookies, i.e. for navigation or visits, absolutely necessary for the proper functioning of the website or for the use of the contents and services offered by the users.

  • Analytics cookies help to understand how the website is used by users. These cookies do not collect information about the identity of the users, nor personal data. The information is processed in aggregated and anonymous form.

  • Third-party cookies are cookies that come from other websites or web servers and serve the same purposes.

  • Information received via cookies is not used to identify users. Cookies are only used for the purposes described above.

The advantages of cookies

Some cookies are extremely useful because they can improve the user experience when you revisit a website that you have visited several times before. For example, assuming you are using the same device and browser as before, cookies help us remember your preferences, tell us how you use our sites, and more relevantly tailor the content displayed to your personal interests and needs.

How can I manage and delete cookies?

If you want to block or delete cookies, you can make these changes in the browser settings. To manage cookies, most browsers allow you to accept or reject all cookies or to accept only certain types of cookies. You can also set your browser to ask you each time a website wants to store a cookie. The procedures for managing and deleting cookies vary depending on which browser you use. To find out how to do this in a particular browser, you can use the help function integrated in the browser or alternatively http://www.aboutcookies.org (Language: English). Here it is explained step by step (language: english) how cookies can be managed and deleted in most common browsers.
